This kid is clearly up to no good.
Doesn't he have that look?
All 3 of my boys are at that stage where they think they can hold something behind their back and tap dance sideways while grinning at me and I will never know that they have something they shouldn't.
Mommy
is
just
so
smart.
So my husband says he would like to put up a zip line in the back yard.
Ya know
for the kids.
We have a trampoline.
Which
really
freaks other non trampoline owning parents out.
We have done our research...no horror stories, please.
So.
Trampoline = great sensory input for the kiddos.
Kinda our at home OT.
But
Trampoline also = danger
Will Robinson
Danger.
Then the grandparents got the kiddos a fort.
Fort America.
I didn't realize just how small Max still was until I saw him on the upper level of Fort America.
Look at that
We just made outside even more dangerous.
Great.
Maybe a pack of wild boars next.
Now
there is a zip line.
Um
hubby was in the Army for 6 years.
He jumped out of air planes.
He repelled from very high things.
He can do a lot
So being all he could be was really a kick for him most days.
So we can't have a whimpy zip line for our young lads.
Nooooooooooo.
To get to the zip line
you must climb up the
extension
ladder
to the platform
where you attatch your saftey line to the wire
and wear the harness Daddy/Eagle Scout fashioned for you.
Can I say that again
extension
ladder.
Now hang on as you
ZIP
very quickly
lift your legs over that smallish tree that we need to cut down because it really is in the way
(only 1 injury so far from that tree)
and then put you feet out fast
because you are going to hit the very big tree the zipline is tied to
and then
you will dangle
dan
gle
because the zip line is still high even at its lowest point
hubby is working on platform #2 now
He saw this thing on the Discoverty Channel about installing a pully system up high in the trees for climbing and repelling.
Um
all 3 of our kids are still in car seats/ booster seats.
At their current weight gaining curve...they may be allowed to sit int he front seat for their driver's test.
And we want a pully system in the trees?
So I say to the hubby
WOW
this is great.
But where are you going to put the hoop of fire?
In other news.
Jenni Bowlin sent ME a package today.
Yep.
I got her March kits.
LOVE them.
Go check out her site and see the cool stuffs she and Ali Edwards made.
Dude.
There is a LOT in this kit:)

2 am Tuesday

Apparently your hubby doesn't get that "sheltering" thing you're into. LOL Egads! A pully-system?! Well, at least they'll be physically fit....and not afraid of heights...and scrarry stuff like that. Amen to the sheltering thing, btw. :)
Hugs,
Izzy

too funny! sounds like crazy adventure world in your back yard!
Posted by: heidi | March 14, 2006 at 07:50 AM
Maybe they'll get it all out of their systems before they are old enough to jump out of airplanes and repel down huge cliffs. Consider it rounding your kids out and exposing them to new adventures. At least they can't do this while you are not there to watch/assist. You have a great back yard for little boys.
Give them all a squeeze for me!
Love ya
:)

There is a really cool pulley toy that you can get from Leaps and Bounds (online) that is a "junior" zip cord. My friend has it and my two year old can do it but 8-9 year olds love it too. You might want to check it out -- could be a little less dangerous than what your husband has in mind, but loads of fun! I'm not sure what it's called, but you can find it in their outdoor gear/toy section.

Can't wait to see the episode of you and your family on TLC's Trauma:Life in the ER. (Yes- after being in a trauma and too many trips to the ER I DO watch this stuff- it helps me to see I am not alone in this world-)SO, anyway, you will rock on this show because the dialogue in the triage will be so "kellicrowe". I can just see you...holding said son's hand. [It's okay honey. Really. Tree brances through the abdomen are really no big deal. Daddy's had this done before. Really. Won't hurt a bit.]Next, you reach in your handbag and pull out picture of you in prom dress. "Here, sweetie. Just focus on this silly picture of Mommy when she was younger. This will take your mind off the branch in your tummy."
Okay. I'm sure you'd be much more real than that- good luck with the zip line...and I send blessings to keep you off any shows on TLC!!

kellicrowe, where's the post of you, aka Mom, with the look of total horror on you face instead of your sweet smile? Or the one of your eyes squeezed shut like they maybe will never open again? 16 days but who's counting? AA
Posted by: Audrey Bianco | March 14, 2006 at 10:27 AM
please don't tell my sons you have a zip line. they would really like to have one. and well, i am a big fat scaredy cat. (a fat scaredy cat that would secretly like to play on a zip line, just not watch her kids do it.)
Posted by: tifsmith | March 14, 2006 at 10:27 AM
hmmmm. This mommy may have to re-think our 8 day trip to the crowe's? Let's just say the daddy is on his way. He likes jumping out of airplanes and repelling too:)

I really wanna see more PICS! At least you can tell the docs that the kids and dh SURE WERE having FUN when the accident happened! LOL! :)
Posted by: Gretchen | March 14, 2006 at 11:02 AM
hmmm...so I started reading Dobson's "Bringing Up Boys" last night. He could have inserted your entry in his first chapter on how boys are different from girls. Something about "their tendency to risk life and limb for no good reason" and "all afterburner and no rudder" (my hubby is an air force pilot so I GET that one!)
But I also have two brothers and an adventurous dad, so we also had a zipline in our backyard that began in a treehouse. But i don't know if it merits the extension ladder. LOL. Lots of fun times there--and only very minor injuries.

You continually crack me up Kelli! Thanks for always brightening my day! Oh an by the way, my brother is VERY much like your dh. And my brother doesn't have any kids....so my kids get a 'cool uncle kevin', and believe me he would love the whole zip line thing! Ü

Just found your blog... and I am ROFL... this is great. As a mom with a 4-year old boy, I *totally* get you. We have a trampoline too and are just waiting for the day he flies over the house & lands in the front yard. And when he does, we'll just have to shrug & brush him off & move on. Those type of events are pretty much a daily occurrence in our house. :)

EIGHT days??
8
days?
Superstarr is going to your house for EIGHT DAYS??
Oh, and my JB kit has not arrived.
Hmmmph.
Did you get special treatment?
I bet you did.
And you need to get some close-ups of your kids before their faces are permanently scarred from smashing into that tree.
Are they at least wearing helmets?
And tell JD that he is instilling in them a huge sense of GOTTA DO MORE.
They will always be looking for the next thrill...
just like him, apparently.
Why email you when I can comment on your blog?

I've got 2 3-year-old little girls who would love to tackle your zip line! Both great climbers. Also, yep, the Jenni Bowlin kit is fantastic, as Ali points out in her blog. Also sold out.
BUM
MER!

Why is everyone assuming there are going to be accidents?! I still say these are the things your kids are going to sit around talking about when they are grown - "hey, remember the great zip line Dad put in for us? And how Mom used to run along underneath us in case we fell, holding her breath the whole time? Wasn't that the greatest? Didn't we have the coolest parents when we were growing up?" Good memories are made in backyards. The important thing is to document every moment. And in case there is an emergency room run, remember to take your camera. Just think of the scrapbooking opportunities!
:)

Okay, while I don't think your kids will get hurt with the zip line (sounds like fun to me) I draw the line at trampolines!! HA! They are boys, let them have fun! Of course, this coming from a mom of two GIRLS!!
Posted by: Teresa | March 14, 2006 at 09:42 PM
okay i'm not going to lie. i think trampolines are worth the risk because they're so freaking fun. have a great time with it!
Posted by: Jocelyn | March 14, 2006 at 10:30 PM
Oh, but just *think* of all the GREAT memories these kids are gonna have!! How cool is that?! I would *love* a fun thing like that in my yard!! :)

You

Have a great day!

Kelligirl, YOU are a hoot & a holler!!! I can only imagine that you've moved the craziness from inside your house out to the backyard! Your boys are always gonna have a great story to tell from their childhood memories.
Seize the day, kiddo!

Do you do stand-up comedy? Consider it. You are outrageously funny (cliched I know--but I'm not the funny one).
