four little, five little, six little sockies....
now that is so in my head
do you ever think about breathing and then you can't stop thinking about it
and then you feel like you have to think about it or you will forget to do it?
back at the ranch....
these socks
a couple people asked about them as an advent calender.
they are clothes pinned to a wide ribbon
(which is duct taped to the top of the mantle....classy red duct tape)
each clothes pin has a number at the top
1-25
i don't put anythng into these socks until the night before the day
so on dec 3 night i will put something in the sock for dec 4
my kids run down the stairs to see what is in the sock
sometimes candies, sometimes a note saying we are decorating ginger bread houses today or a friend is coming over or we see going to see a movie.....
these are toddler size socks...so nothing big can fit
(and yes...max's sock drawer is very low on socks at the moment)
maybe a note sending them on a scavenger hunt
i started this when david was about 5
got the idea from martha stewart
he had trouble with the stress of the holiday
not knowing when exactly this fun thing would hit
always wondering if this was the day and getting dissappointed when it wasn't
so i realized the importance of counting down the days for him
(now...we have a nativity set and talk about Jesus's birth that way....growing up, counting down the days on an advent calender was for that purpose...i am not pretending this is that)
it is a great visual for all the boys...and ME....to remember where we are in the month.
and it helps me to think of things that can make it fun and memorable for them.
i can get so involved in making a nice Christmas morning for them that i forget to make a nice decemeber month for them...ahem.
so there ya go.
happy Wed!
