Becoming Jane

Sk8ter_boy1_2

1. A lo I did as a downloadable class for
National Scrapbook Day at 2 peas.
Click here for a link to the seed.
In the instructions is a place to click for downloadable
step by step
instructions.

2. I just watched
Becoming Jane.
I wanted to see it.
I am a big Jane Austin fan.
But I didn't want to see it.
I mean
It isn't Titanic or anything
but I kinda knew how it would end.

And then I gasped when he introduced his daughter.
Hand up to mouth
gasped.
And the last scene was lovely.
And then it was over.
I cried.
Not sobs or anything.
Please.
It wasn't a long distance commercial or anything.
(do we still have those anyway
with cell phones and all?
Or is it something my kids would say,
"what is long distance?
Is it like an album?
Or how you roll down a window?")
But a sad little
I hope it at least turned out that well for Jane
cry.

So, Austinites
did you see it?
What did you think?
I really feel the need to go and research her life now.

Happy Monday (ish)

Yep, saw it - loved it. Much better than Jane Austen Regrets on Masterpiece recently.

Also saw Jane Austen Book Club which was really neat too.

Trace.

you see. this is why I love you so much...and I mean that in the most platonik way lol...but did you really just make an upside down skateboard???--WHO thinks of that?? gah you are creative miss kelli

Love the layout. You are so creative.

I HATE that movie!!!!!!!!! I loved it until they had to be apart and then I was just mad. I know it was "based" on a true story so it's not like they rode off into the sunset but I can't hardly think of her now without feeling sad!!!! Oh my. So so so so so sad. I love Anne Hathaway. She made it so believable. I just got the 8-hour Pride and Prejudice mini-series for my birthday. I try not to think of Jane. I'll just think of Mr. Darcy when I feel sad. LOL

Omigosh I loved the first part of the movie...so much, and then I kept getting interrupted...and it was overdue...so I took it back and knew I had to buy it...which I haven't done yet...but now I hope I don't waste my money, first renting, paying a late charge, then buying it. Oh, and I did adore The Jane Austen Book Club. Made me want to start them all over again. And dude! I totally didn't notice that skateboard was upside down - and I work in a skate shop!!!

Loved the movie and also Jane Austen Book Club. I think irl he really did name his daughter Jane. You might like the book "Secret Memoirs of Jane Austen" by Syrie James as well! XX's

i saw the movie (had mixed feelings about it but enjoyed it mostly).

i read somewhere a review that said it was very loosely based on her life...i think there are probably lots of inaccuracies in it (you know, to make it more hollywood successful)...but i felt the same way...it made me want to learn more about one of my favorite authors!

um, freaking in LOVE with James McAvoy, was looking him up the other day, and was like, oh my GOSH, I loved Tumnus from Lion Witch and the Wardrobe...like had a crush on him, oh wait, that's why its James McAvoy.

okay, so my heart just fluttered away when they "secretly" held hands on the stairway at his parents house...ACK!

The movie made me sad though. I just so wanted them to end up together. I agree the last scene was heart wrenching, like why didn't he just step up...and oh my gosh, his wife didn't freak that he named his daughter Jane?

LOVED the movie...makes me want to read all Jane Austin books, not just watch the movies and masterpiece theaters:)

loved the movie. love jane. love.

and i LOVe your skateboard miss kelli. like, drooling love. licking the screen love. seriously!

xo

did you watch cranford on masterpiece theater last night? very austen-ish. two more episodes the next two sundays. i think you can watch it online. i didn't see becoming jane, wanted to tho. i liked the jane austen book club.
love that skateboard!

This is one of my fav movies right now. I am not an Austinite, but I still loved it. I know there's alot of debate about her relationship with Tom. Anyway, I cried, too. What a life she led as evidenced in her books. Such a brave woman for her day and age.

I have been reading your blog for a while now...but had to finally comment because I just saw Becoming Jane today and loved it! So sweet that he named his first daughter Jane. I think you are great! Thanks for being an inspiration!

That movie was so depressing. I put it and the Beatrix Potter movie in a box together and bury them deep in my backyard far from my DVD player.

I was soooo sad after watching that movie. And yeah..i did the gasp thing too. I had hope they would get together when they were old somehow.

It was good...but very very bittersweet.

Okay, you know how you LOVE star trek so so much! That is how I LOVE Jane Austin's books. I do like Becoming Jane, mainly for James Macavoy but I totally went into it knowing it wasn't going to be accurate. I mean she had tons of brothers not two. And the deaf brother was sent as a child to live with someone else, so there is that too, and, and, and well I could go on but really the sad truth is that there was a Lefroy but little is known about what happened and there were others but it just never worked out for her, and that just breaks my heart. She was such an amazing romance author it makes you wonder how she knew everything she did. Sigh...
Plus wasn't Cassandra's story so sad? That scene when she is crying in her room with her Mom and her sister? So sad.
Anyway, have you read Austinland? It's a fun read. And if you liked watching Becoming Jane and Pand P you should see Wives and Daughters and North and South. Both made by the BBC and based on books by Elizabeth Gaskell who wrote in a style similar to Jane. They are both really long but so good! And end on a much happier note.
And now I am rambling and sounding like a crazy person so I'm going to stop!

I'm a first time reader, but I just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVED Becoming Jane, and especially the ending. :)

I couldn't bring myself to watch it. In my state of denial, I'm going to pretend that it ended well. (although I recognize her life story gave her the inspiration and personality of her stories). LOL!

i was NOT prepared for that movie.
i saw it on a flight over to new york,
i am not a crying girl
but i was moved to tears.
i wish i had never seen it.
but i also wish i lived in a world where they HAD got together.
*sigh*

Oh that movie....melts me...love the layout above and your blog:) glad i found it!

okay i am a little late seeing your jane post...but i saw this movie about 2 weeks ago, and then a preview for it on another dvd again last night, and realized i just really love this movie. i took the story as a beautiful love story as i was told it was not extremely accurate. so what i really loved was james and anne and their characters and the dynamics between them. he was awesome in that film. i want to own this. it might rank up there next to philadelphia story (which ends so much happier) for me.
thanks for letting me chat about this film.
