get your heidi

with heidi tape or without with the tape or.... hmmmm...... pressed the tape down a bit too much now it is stuck ok - with the tape it is!! My David. Mr. cool. This LO is called 2 cool 4 school. (literally in our case:) He wore this a week ago. I don't remember where we were going...but it called for an outfit. And the toboggan - it doesn't have to be cold out to wear one of those. And don't try to be cute and call it a lid. He looks at you like you are slow and says "It is a hat." He was always always always the kid who wore costumes. For like 2 years - he wore them everyday everywhere we went. I would forget that he had on a Darth Maul (minus the mask) costume until people kinda followed us with their eyes thru Chick-fil-A wondering just who the grim reaper looking kid was gonna sit next to.... Then well meaning adults would look at him and ask him who he was or say something like "Wow, Superman, you sure look strong." David would always say, "I'm David Crowe." Like DUH. Like come one people - it is a costume and I am a real boy under here. He is pretty logical. Irony & sarcasm are lost on him. Ok - so I heave read the 1st chapter of Heidi's book and done my first practice lessons. 1st - Understand that I do not even subscribe to any scrap mags any more. I love to look at them - but I am trying to get into my own ideas instead of always thinking I am stealing someone else's. So - having said that...here is what I think about the book so far. I totally like it - but I think any idea book is super to get and share with others. I mean - the pages are not gonna look different in 2 months. 2nd - I do really like the book. Love her style. I really like the fact the idea isn't to learn to write just like her. It is to develop you own font based on the diff ways you write. Like she gives you maybe 12 lines and asks you to write long, cursive, short, print, write hard, write in pen, etc. to see what your personal fonts are. It was fun - b/c I write very differently depending on what I am doing. 3rd - I am now in search of a great white pen. Where can I find one of these? Any that I have ever tried seem to need me to write over the letter like 5 times...by then it is all messy. My next assignment is writing diff ways in text boxes. And to do a font search around the house to see the diff ways I write. My calendar - which I look at every day and I keep for years later to let me know where I was on April 12th 2001 - is a total mess. I like to write with Bic pens -blue. No pencil - ick. Mechanical is ok. But a smooth Bic pen - the kind you buy like in a 20 pack. Oh yeah. Skin-a-ma-INKY-dink. BUT - I have to mark out stuff in the cal. a lot because it is ink = messy. Now - a list of things to do for the day - I may re-write that 3 times just so it looks neat. I will even re-write things I have already done so I can draw a neat line thru them. This paper I have no plans to keep. Yet - I have spent way more time making it look nice. Oh - and it needs to be on a legal pad too. Ok -that is probably enough sharing. I wouldn't want to spill all my quirks at once. I'm the kinda person ya gotta ease into knowing. Otherwise it can all be loud and overwhelming. So recap: I am keeping the tape and the Heidi book is delightful. kellicrowe

feeling scrappy

I scrapped a little. I will be scrapping and cleaning a lot over the next few days. No leaving the house. The gas stations here are closed. 4 of our 5 pipelines are closed. Guess where they come from? La. Yep. Not a big deal for us considering what all is happening there. Now, with no transition from the serious to the silly at all - here is what I scrapped today. "I heart Cowboy Dave" My David - at like 16 months. I didn't like the pic at all when I took it - now I love it. It is a scraplift of Suzanne Quillen (squillen) at 2 peas as part of a Pub challenge today. I think she is super cool and has just had so many amazing Lo's lately. And she seems really nice too. AND she was scraplifting Dagmar. I think Dagmar was scraplifting Kevin Bacon. Oh, he is goooood. The next one - Vibrant - inspired by this back cover of The Land of Nod catalogue. My Alex. I just knew he'd love drama classes. He is always getting us to watch his shows at home. Welp - I signed him up. He was cast as Max in Where the Wild Things Are. The lead. Yep. He was great. He knew his lines...no thanks to me who forgot to help him learn them. He was adorable. He hit his marks (note the pic that he is standing on a taped x on the floor). And now he really never wants to do it again. The pic - I love scanning them and then blowing them out with the contrast and light. I do not know why. I guess it is more graphic feeling or something. I am doing an ATC card swap with Darby. The purple flower is the Darby flower. She likes purple. I am sending Jolie, her younger sister, one too. Jolie likes pink. These sweet girls belong to the very cool Stacey Kingman. She is my self appointed mentor. I just call her my "groovey cool scrapping friend that I met thru a secret pal group last October and now I am in a Cj with her" friend. For short:) Anyway - she just started up a new blog. Check out the link on the bottom left. still the same girl and yet... Yep. That is her. Homeschool. Faith. Wisdom. Homekeeping. Mommyhood. Muffin links. She has got it all. And humility. Lots. So she wouldn't say she has it going on. Oh - and in honor of your new typepad bloggiatitude - I am sending you my junk:) This WAY old 1997 issue of Memories Magazine. kickin' it old school

OLD school. I saw a blazer on the cover of Bodin. (think J Crewish type of clothes) Wanted to make a lo like it. This Lo, when done - so reminded me of my old scrappin self. See, my style changes HUGELY like every 6 months. We could say I am really hip and cutting edge. But that would be wrong. Or, that I am greatly inspired by what I see each day. I was inspired by this jacket. BUT - it so reminds me of my old scrappy ways. Like you can take the girl out of 1999...but you can't get all the 1999 out of the girl. (And can we pause for a moment and agree that it does seem like just yest. that we were partying like it was 1999? Man - these 00's are flying by!) 1. patterned paper as the large back ground 2. matting the picture - baby, the more matting the better the lo used to be! 3. portrait picture 4. no journaling 5. die cuts - well, I didn't buy them - I made them. (saving money - of course;) Ah well, I guess I haven't come so far after all. The pic: My sister Sara (note how I cleverly used the Sarah Script AC letters) at 9 weeks. (I was 11 at the time). how did i get so far behind?

This is what I scrapped when I should have been cleaning. But I haven't been scrapping at all. Well, like other than this one little thing. So how did I get so far behind? I mean - what HAVE I been doing? I know - educating my kids and all the other stuff of life. But still. My house shouldn't be this out of control. Not this messy. It isn't really dirty. But just stuff everywhere. Like we were robbed and as they ransacked the place....they brought things in intead of taking them out. If my house were a snow globe...it looks like someone just shook it. Instead of pretty flakes of fake snow swirling around... it is trucks and papers and laundry and dishes and containers and toys and legos lots of legos. If I had been off doing fabulous things - then I could deal. Kinda like with money. If you spend a lot on little things...after a while you are like Hey - I could have bought something big for all that. Anyway. I am behind. Way way way behind on everything. Thank you notes laundry cleaning even playing with the kids. Ok. I am off to clean. If I am not back in a week...send help. kellicrowe PS - Oh yeah...about the lo:) Hubby and me in Mexico for our 10 year anniversary. Check out my way short hair! Simple. Not fast - it took a while to ink the circles. I also started a little album on the left - scrappy bits - of some of my fave lo's this year. (How full of myself am I to say that?....could I be more look at me look at me?! I mean - you are already reading the blog...now I point out more about me!? I get how self absorbed that it.) That said, it is on your left;)

10:45 pm and I just finished it. I am tired. I have been in a funky mood lately. And it felt good just to scrap something. Anything. And I am happy with this one. I am really into swirls and squares and circles right now. Solid card stock. 

I also seem to be into labeling my kids. (ok for me to do but not other people)

Alex is my loud boy. Doesn't mean I don't have other loud boys. (Have you MET Max?) Alex is loud. And chatty. Talks A LOT. Really.

Hmmmm. Who else do we know like this? Yeah. The apple fell right below the womb on this one. I can so remember my mom saying that we should play the quiet game when I was a kid. This really only made me want to talk more. It made me actually think about what I was saying.

Like when I was a kid and thought about breathing. I became obsessed with breathing. Making sure I was doing it right. Not forgetting.

Yeah - the quiet game made me obsessed with talking. Alex too. I don't think I have walked out of his room at night in the past two years with out him calling out to me for just one more request. One more question. One more comment.

I      I am having a B-52's moment.

I have been scrapping/cleaning/2peas praising/scanning to some righteous 80's tunes. I mean how can you not be happy to tidy to the Gogo's "We Got the Beat"? If you have to tidy....it might as well be to that. T

wo Lo's. LO#1 - What I scrapped while grooving to my 80's music. Maya Road ribbon - pretty...but boy does it fray easily. Like pulls apart fray. I went thru a lot of it just to get these knots tied. Stuff from our anniversary weekend. 11 years. Yes - I ate sushi and liked it. WEEEEELLLLLL, I like it on rice. The chunks of it are just, um, a little too rawish for me.

LO#2 - I posted yest on 2 peas. Inspired by Eric Caryle's workspace I saw in an article. I loved the way his table looked once he picked up his art work. There were still bright paint speckles framing the area where the paper had been.

Ok - off to clean some more. I am still working on my craft room. Maybe I will play a little more 80's tunes. OH, and tease my bangs:) Everybody cute, everybody cut. Everybody cut footloose. kelliloggins

Something new pic - D&A looking up at the not Allosaurus or Tyrannosaurus bones....but some other one that was close to it and bigger. Great. Bigger than a T-Rex. That is so what you want. Old pic: I pulled out D's 1st year scrapbook. Blech. It WAS like 7 years ago that I made this. But still - ooooooooo! Not good scrapping AT ALL. This is actually one of the best pages from it. I am scanning each of these pages - just in case something happens to the book ever. Ok - Random: Yes Stacey Kingman - the quote "Baby talk isn't a word but baby fish mouth is sweeping the nation?" Is from When Harry Met Sally (when they were playing win, loose or draw) No one else guessed at the Meg Ryan movie with the line "Swim around in it until your fingers are all pruney" - French Kiss. Random pics - my boys outside the grossology exhibit pretending to be grossed out. Max pretending to read about ducks. Can I just say that going to the museum the first day of Public school was so pleasant?? NO crowds. NO lines. A few other families milling about. And us. monday morning lo's

Monday Monday. First day of public school here in Fulton County. So we are heading to the museum today to see the Grossology exhibit. Hoping to have some GROSS pics to post later on:) Alex announced he no longer wants to take guitar lessons. 2 weeks. That sounds about right. NO - I am not letting him quit. Ok - two super simple LO's. One took about 20 minutes to do and the other sat on my counter and scoffed at me for 2 MONTHS. Months, people. I had to reprint the pic I messed it up so. I know. I KNOW....they both look like they should have taken 20 minutes. It is the lo I call David Fish Mouth that took FOREVER. (Hey - what movie is this line from: "Baby Talk isn't a word but Baby Fish Mouth is sweeping the nation?") I was trying to copy a Bahamas commercial I saw in like 2.5 seconds. Ahh, well. If you see the commercial - this looks nothing like it. I am typing with one eye closed as I have a wayward contact roaming around. I am sure it has a bad effect on my typing. In fact - just always assume I have a rogue contact when my typing is espc. bad. :) happy Monday to ya kellicrowe - about to go be grossed out on purpose

the lost blog

Dude. Does this ever happen to you: Suddenly my computer kicks me off line. See ya to whatever I was working on. Like yest.'s blog. Bye bye, now. It was a good one too. Brilliant, in fact. You will just have to take my word for it. I am sure I will never recapture the poetry that it was. Alas. Alack. Ok - well, actually - I think it was something like this: (if you are expecting real poetry you are gonna be disappointed;) Just in case you didn't see this at 2 peas - here ya go. If you already saw this - then skip to the next paragraph. If you didn't - keep reading. Really, I will be able to tell if you don't. So I have 3 boys. 2 have birthdays the same week in June. One does not. Alex is in the "does not" group. The group of 1. It is hard enough to be in the middle....and then to be left out in June. Well, you just have to know Alex to truly understand how sad this makes him EVERY year. So I did lo about him on not his birthday. I think I will do one every year about this. I like to do serial picture taking. (OK - I mean like taking the same pics over and over again - not like photo shoots of Cheerios). (Ok, every one together now? We are walking, walking, stay with the group.) So, taking pics in a series. I like doing that. We took pics of David at 2 weeks with a Buzz Lightyear toy. He was only 4.5 lbs when he was born. Tiny. I kept that Buzz. We have pics of him and his brothers with this same, one handed and wingless Buzz. (He has seen some amazing battles. Oh, the stories he could tell). We used to take pics of them and Buzz on their birthdays. And then I forgot a few times. I was bummed at first and then I let it go. I realized I was really trying to capture their size each time and they really didn't grow THAT much between June and August....so just take the pic in August. When we were dating, we were on our way to Furman's Formal dance (so sure they called it something better than that). My roomie was taking a picture for us. Suddenly, JD just dips me. Maggie got the picture. So now, we just take random dip pics. We have been married 11 years. We have them of us in Mexico, at our wedding, on our 5th anniversary, dressed up as Han and Leia (but really - doesn't everyone have a pic like that?). Some are better than others. My hair looks great in the 5 year ann. pic. They used all be framed and on our bedroom wall at the other house...3 years ago. I am not sure what I am going to do with them now - but I am going to keep taking them. We have a series of pics of the boys in some overalls that belonged to JD as a baby. Sadly - the overalls are ugly. But I took each kid to have their pics taken when they fit into them. I like pics in a series. BUT, like I said, once I let go of my NEED to have them taken on just the right day - I enjoy them more. Kinda like marking on the door frame how tall the kids are. Here are two more pics - David at 2 weeks with Buzz and Woody (when Buzz still had both hands). And then David at 5 (1 week after Max was born) with Buzz. the secret to creativity...

Mary Kaye Moore (one of my college roomies and probably the first crafty/creative person I ever studied.) So maybe I have never had an original idea of my own. I am ok with that. Here is how I know I am not coming up with anything new. I get a great idea. Like - "wow, can't wait to scrap this...it is gonna look great...never seen it before" kind of idea. Then, the next day in the gallery at 2 peas....I see my fab original idea posted by someone who is NOT me. HOW? Well, I figure my idea wasn't all that original. I bet we both saw the same commercial, magazine, etc. that sparked similar ideas. There you go. Ah well. I am OK with the no original ideas feeling. I am gonna swim in it until my fingers get all prunie. OK - anyone know what Meg Ryan movie that last line was from? Speaking of not original....I scrapped a page about ME last night based on an add. It is ok - not my fave. I am not into the scrapping about me. I got too many pics about the kids sitting around. BUT - I did. There isn't even a flower on it. But it is about me. I am going to try to insert a little more me in my scrapbook, into my journaling. I want to feel like I am leaving more traces of ME in my scrapbook. Not just in case something happens and my kids refer to these books to learn more about who I was. But to help me remember who I am now. Because, dude, I am so forgetting stuff. See what a copy cat I am?? SO a copy cat. (did you ever play that she's copying me game as a kid? MAN - I was so good at being annoying!) OK - on a diff topic: AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN NOT REMEMBER HOW OLD SHE IS? Seriously. I had to stop and do the math 2005-1973 = 32...right? I really feel like it wouldn't be too much of a shock to hear my roomie from college saying one morning, "Kelli, wake up or you are going to be late for English Lit!" I usually feel like we are all the same age, have the same interests, same beliefs and political ideas. Same. I know, two words: PollyAnna. But I think Polly could remember her age better than me. My Grandmother just had her 76th birthday. She knew the date and her age just fine. Yes - I KNOW we do not all have the same beliefs and political interests. You know what we do all share? Ok - had to kick my own tail to get these done. The second one was a great example of a lo coming together and then falling back apart. It is a pic of Alex from (drum roll) yesterday! The quote says. "I just love summer time... it is when you get to do all the summer stuff." Well, I had planned for the papers to go horizontal. Then, at the last minute...as I attached the pictures and the flowers in an oh so permanent diamond glaze way....I thought - why not turn it vertical? Sure. Mix it up a bit. Um, when I did that it made the rub on stitches run thru the words = messy. Ah well. Mellie I love your lo! I will see if I can link it....but I stink at that:) Any one else? Bueller? AC/DC. Metal band. My kids initials. No relation to each other. Also something to do with currents. Anyway - opposites. My two oldest are. VERY opposite. I have SOOOOO many rub ons and sticker letters! Been trying to actually USE them lately. But a new pack of Scrapworks rub ons are like riding in a convertible with a full tank of gas.... just a delight like - where do you wanna go kinda fun like I can spell anything I want 'cause i got 15 e's. Yeah baby. Now, I don't have a convertible. Not enough room for my three car seats. Booster. David would want you to know he is in a booster. But I have seen them in the movies. inspirations

Where do you get inspired? Me - I have always had a weakness for magazines and catalogues. Pretty ones. I used to keep them. I would look thru the J Crew one in the evening after putting the kids down. It is like the Sharper Image Cat. I am not gonna buy anything from them...but I like to look. About 5 months ago I took my pretty magazines and catalogues and cut the day lights out of them. Tore, chopped and ripped them up. There were too many of them with like 4 pretty pages out of 78. I started this little, messy notebook. Look - I never even took the price tag off. Some things I rip out are just fun colors I never would have thought to put together. Some are a neat designs. Some are just things I like to look at. I have also started sketching my lo's before i do them. ROUGH sketches. One of the pages above has the sketches I made on a car ride (I was not driving) for the tattoo lo I posted a few weeks back. Another page has just a list of things from the 80's I jotted down for the Patricia's CJ. There reasons I like doing this: 1. it helps me to remember 2. it helps me to get rid of the magazines 3. I like to post the inspiration with a lo so I can say - NO, I was lifting this design here....not you. Sounds silly - but there has been SO much Pub talk lately about scrap lifting...I am getting paranoid. I did this lo earlier. A lift of Elsecake's idea to use 10 things about me that are secret - ish. I totally lifted the design from Pottery Barn Teen. I have seen Rebecca Sower do the fun writing swirl. And Stacey Kingman has a really cool one in her Words Worth Repeating CJ. But at the moment of making the page - I was looking at and thinking of the PBTeen page. Anyway - I just enjoy adding stuff to this little book. I can not believe that it doesn't drive me crazy to have it so messy. Most of my inspiration comes from the home and clothing mags. Oh - and billboards and trucks that drive by. How about you? kelli

Monday - Aug 1 - Challenge

What do this Lo from like 6 months ago and these buildings have to do with each other? The Monday Challenge Baby! Are You Ready? (ok too much build up) The challenge - to write down the funny, tender, gotta remember them things people say to you this week. Go ahead and write down any thing you have been meaning to remember. For me - it was these buildings and what David said when he saw them like 4 years ago. "Those are the legoist buildings I have ever seen." Ok - not stand up comedy kind of stuff. Not taking him out to open mic night at the comedy club. But funny and sweet to us b/c the kid is a lego nut. Has been since he was two. So, on the way it Ikea....we drove past the buildings. I snapped this bad picture of them. I wrote down the quote in my calendar. I always write them there because then I can remember when it was said. (Unless it is 4 year later...and then it is good because I keep all my calendars for years to refer back to about dates and events) SO 1. Write down any already said stuff. 2. Listen up - your kids say sweet or funny things all the time. And it doesn't have to be kids. It could be a sweet thing someone else says. I will post my example of this tomorrow:) I just got a good one in the mail from my sweet friend. 3. Write down the new stuff people say. I promise there will be something great this week uttered by someone in your house or on your phone. And if you make it until Friday with nothing - call me because I am really funny and so worth quoting:) (OK -NOT...I am bland bland bland on the phone...Cami would never say it...but I am) Thanks for no one saying I am bland bland bland here. I applaud you for not saying that. NOW - 4. Scrap it. Scrap the quote. Not mandatory. Just for fun. So I don't have a picture of the moment David said this thing about the buildings. But I do have a pic of the buildings and I know I have pics of him around the right age. It may look like barf when I am done. It has happened before. Then, if you post them at two peas and e-mail me or let me know on the comments (along with user name) I can link it to here. Only a link. 1. bliss is a lo we made in Jenni Bowlin's class "painted effects." She is a great teacher. It was my first class ever:) She was very conversational, organized, had lots of over heads for us to look at to see lots of examples of what she was talking about. We made this. The only thing I changed when i got home was I added the ribbons to 2 tags and the bookplate (I lost the brad for the book plate). Her class was great. I went to her make and take at Scrapit. Fun. She has her own line of found stuff at Scrapit. I would def take her class again.

2. smile - Hero Arts make and take. I thought getting a 12x12 lo done for a make and take was pretty good. Had fun with the stamps. Reminded me that I have stamps. Finally got to see what versamark is. Not so scary. Fun. I really liked their shake up your style workshop too. Probably the one that shook my style the most.

3. Sandy Feet is lo I made in Tracey White's "artistic effects class" She is so funny. I don't know why I was surprise by that. I guess I thought she was gonna be quiet. Nope. This lo was supposed to have a pocket to hold journaling and a thing to put a tape transfer thing on. It was too much - so I left it with this. Way more pastel and shabby than my style - but a fun class. She was also very organized. I have a lot of appreciation for a class that is organized, moves along at a nice pace, but doesn't leave people behind...espec. me. Ok - I think that is offically all of the things I made at cku-m that I kept as is. I will admit, I did bring some stuff home and take it apart to use. I find myself looking forward to the next cku sched. listing in Aug and thinking about location, shopping and who will be there. It is so much more about the experience than just making stuff. That is great too. But now that I have been - I think the other stuff may become more important.

kelli meets kelli

kellicrowe meets kellidarr superstar...film at 11. So I went to CKU wanting to make some friends and learn some stuff.

I joined a circle journal: Nashville Stars CJ. I received two CJ's before I went to Nashville and Super's was one of them.

I could just tell right off that we had a lot in common. I don't think I asked her if she ever wanted to be friends...but that is really neither here nor there at this point (of no return) for her.

She drove me around for a couple hours with her very sweet and funny and talented friends. She took me to Scrapit! WOW. One of my new fave stores ever! They stayed open until midnight each day of CKU. Shopping in a cool store with EVERYTHING in stock at 11:45 pm can make a girl giddy. Like the doors opened and you kinda expected the Vienna Boys' Choir to break into song.

 

what i know for sure

My entry into mellie's CJ "What do you know for sure?" As it turns out - I don't know a lot. The little book contains room for 3 things:

1. Jesus is.

2. America rocks

3. I have a blessed life that I never would have asked for but so glad I got.

   And that is the sum total of what I know for sure.

    I would like to thank all of the scrapbookers I have ever met..... That is what I want to type every time I post ANYTHING at 2 peas. I feel like if I have ever seen anything that looks or feels like what I just made...then I need to give them credit.

Even if it really was not related at all to the creative process. If I use a monogram. Ali. Use three pis and embellish it up on the bottom right - Lisa M. Hand cut circles - Margie .Sand or mix my mumbo jumbos and Sara script AC stickers - Stacey K. Squares - Suziebeezie.  Solid card stock inked - Shelley.

Really - I sometimes think I have never had an original idea of my own. Other people's original ideas - sure. If I think of something I don't think I have seen before - poof - it is in the gallery the next day...posted by someone else.

Here is a LO (the one with the red flower) - super simple - that I did yest. Nothing really amazing. But I really like it. The hand writing is a little messy - but still, ok. Remind you of anything? It reminds me of a LO by Tara Whitney with the cool tree she made. I haven't posted it yet. I didn't even think of Tara's LO until I finished this one. But I DID think of it. It has that same peaceful easy feeling of Tara's. Ink, color tones, similar item placement. Of course, my fear would be that I would post this and she would think - that look NOTHING like mine. Blech. OR, that I wouldn't give credit...and she thinks blech.

I guess I will post it on Mon morning. Funny that I always think this b/c someone e-mailed me yest to show me a Lo that looked a little like one I did a while back. You know what I thought - I thought they probably had the idea all on their own. I thought they did a better job with that idea. And if they did somehow get it from me - I would have been flattered.

The other LO - 'a' is just something fun. Someone posted on the Pub board a few weeks ago that they thought vellum was out. It made me want to use vellum. Good thing - I realized how much of it I have! Lots of fun AC vellum. It is so out...it is like back in. Just like leg warmers. And macrame. Ok, so maybe not the last one. Whale punch:

The answer is #3...although I am not sure I actually asked a question. So my LSS was having an all-you-can-stuff-and-then-zip-into-a-12x12 pouch 20% off sale last weekend. I figured it was a good time to get a few punches...ya know, 'cause I am sooooo economical about stuff like that.

Got this groovy tiny one. Made by Whale. Goes thru so pleasantly - you find yourself wanting to punch. Marvi punches - move over 'cause the Whale ones are SO much easier to use!

Here are two LO's I did last night/early this morning. Because I can not do anything in moderation it seems - another good reason that I do not drink - I will make more. Lots. Until I am sick of this punch. Well, I am prety sure others will get sick of me using it long before I am:) kelli

Happy My Granny's 86th Birthday!

Ok - so she isn't going to read this blog. She doesn't have a computer. I will call her in just a little bit.

Her box of peaches and pears from gotfruit.com (they are amazing there) should arrive today. They put packages at the front desk where she lives (in a swank retirement apartment/hotel like place). Anyway - everyone SEES that you have a package or flowers or whatever delivered to you.

The only thing she ever asks for are more word search books and cough drops. The cough drop thing is funny to me because I remember she always had cough drops that she let me snack on during church when we visited her.

This is us - 30 years ago. This is a scanned copy of my "first letter" I ever wrote. Check out my penmanship on the names.

Ok - so that is Mom's handwriting. The tag is a scanned copy of Granny's handwriting on the back of the letter explaining what it is. I got that idea from Ali Edwards. She is just clever clever. That is an actual baby diaper pin that was mine. Cloth diapers. God bless you mom. I am amazed that the diaper pin and the letter are still floating around and were handy for this.

Granny and me. She was one of the two most important people to me growing up. I LOVED to stay at her house with her. She made the sourest homemade pickles, the best ever red velvet cake, cream of wheat anytime of day I wanted and raw egg milkshakes.

stuff that I am diggin' right now

Thing one I am digging right now with scrapping - this book, Graphic Design Cookbook, is great.

Lo ideas, fonts, etc. AND no cooking whatsoever. My kind of cookbook. Got the idea for the font that I used in this Tattoo Lo about my sister from the book. Really liking this book. Got it because I know what I like when I see it. And I like a big variety of stuff.

SO I was wondering - why do I like what I like? AND if I could figure that out...then maybe I could produce more of what I like.

Really, I just want Sara to instantly become a graphic artist to teach me. Ok, so what is a snobby scrapbooker like me doing with Mat Stack from Joanne's? Ok, never seen a stack before that made me want the whole thing. Then I found this cute little book of great colors. I don't know if it is tone or hue or whatever that I like about it - but I like it. A lot. I find myself just wanting to use this for LO's. The book is like 5 " x 5"...so not a ton of paper. Really liking this.

Thirdly, rub ons. I am trying ever so diligently to only get black or white so that I can mix and match and prolong the life span of these packets o' letters.

But as Yoda said, "Do or do not, there is no try." So in my "trying" I did get some other colors.

I am learning over July and August about Adobe. So maybe one day I will know how to just print out any cool thing I want to say on a picture or on paper in any direction I want. But for now....I really like these.

Ok, so all that said for my enjoyment only. Other people seem to have an actual purpose for their blogs. Me, I see purpose in so many other things. Why drag it in here too? kelli

Happy Birthday Stacey!! I don't have any actual pictures of Stacey and me....just pretend ones like this Lo that I did a few months back. As you can see, Stace is a little taller than I am:) So - right, we have never met. But I really forget that most days. I do. An e-mail from Stace is like warm sunshine. 7 gypsies cku-m project

7 Gypsies CKU-M class project: This groovy cool book. Now, I like everything to be uniform. So I am not a small book makin' kind of gal.

I am SO glad I took this class! Most classes had a very small, if at all, tool list to bring. This one required an awl (or japanese screw punch - man, if this thing is at all in your price range - get it!) and various other tools. I was kinda bummed to take so much stuff. BUT I am so glad they made me do this product instead of having the holes and stuff done for me.

This class moved so fast - but I didn't ever get behind (I did in some of my other classes). I felt like I was 1.learning 2.creating somthing worth making 3.successful. These are what I looked for in all classes.

Here are the pictures:

1. The album...and my fat knuckles....I DID pop them often as a kid.

2. Inside the spine

3. Three pieces of cardboard were uses to make the spine. The left big piece is the back cover of the book. The top piece is about 1.5 inches wide. There is like 1/8th an inch of space between the back cover and the top piece. The gaffer's tape runs the length and it the only thing holding it together. Same amount of space between the top piece and that front flap. The 1/8th an inch is perf. space for the book to bend.

4. Other fun things to do with the tape: make a pocket using two pages next to each other secured at the top and bottom. The tape tears length wise very easily and straight once it has a small cut.

5. Fold down a page and fix with a small piece

6. Make a fold out page. We actually just tore out pages from the journal and trimmed the fringe. A measured piece of additional card stock works great too. I used this idea (minus the g-tape) in Stacey's CJ. Yes I am wearing jeans and a sweatshirt in these pictures because it is like an ice box in parts of the house even though it is HOT outside.

7. No tape on this - but fun variation for the small book idea - just trim the length of the page to reveal part of the next page. A sticker is highlighting the edge of the page on top.

8. Another pocket idea that I did use just like this in Stacey's CJ.

9. This flip down page was suppossed to have a flip up part too - but we ran out of time at the end of class.

10. Gaffer's tape: I got the two on the left - letters and numbers before I went to CKU. I realized the fun uses of it there...and realized it could do a lot more than just lay flat on my page like ribbon tape. I now like the gaffer tape with script writing (or 2peas has a plain black) because you can rip it in half and over lap it better without it being all that obvious. It took almost exactly one roll of tape - with lots torn in half length wise - to make this little journal.

11. Just looking through the 7 Gypsies stuff and saw this little book for like $2.50 at Jill's. How cute is it??

12. There are a lot of pages. A sweet pea (ok, Stacey) said a fun idea for a tall book would be to collect lists of things. I am going to start collecting these for David's stocking. He LOVES small books and fills them with drawings right away.

13. So maybe I posted this pic before with Me, the 7 Gyps lady and Patricia. I thought when she was talking about her man it was like her new husband or something. She looks so young. NOPE - her hubby and her 4 kids. She showed us the cutest pics of her kids. Youngest two are twins. One pic was her son in underwear, a cape and goggles standing by a barn. Don't ya just love it when you see a pic and can picture one of your own kids in that exact moment? I do.

I could so see David like that...although we discourage the underwear outside now that he is 8.

my entry into stacey's cj

Let me just say, for the record, I am super bummed about these scans. This looks so much better IRL. Not because I made it - but because of the fun Wild Asparagus papers and ribbons. Having said that, I like how it looks IRL:) This is for Stacey Kingman's Circle Journal "Words Worth Repeating." (I just had such a funny thought - what if I had pretended to do an entry about something so not related to the topic and then posted it?:) First of all - the CJ Stace put together is really amazing. Lots detail. Lots. So here is the main page I did. It asks: "What do Yoda, Ward Cleaver, John 3:16 & W. have in common?" Answer written lightly at the bottom...and upside down a la kids paper menus where the answer is so cleverly hidden just right there in front of ya...Answer: they all said words worth repeating. So I made 4 little books to keep all the quotes in. I counted - 60 quotes stuffed in these. Here are a few pages that I thought would scan well. There is a special thing too. HIDDEN in one of the books is a scrapbooking celebrity autograph. YES. See, so the game continues. Let me say this - NOTHING NEEDS TO COME APART to find it. Ya hear? Don't go taking anything off that is attached. I did try to scraplift elements from the other entries in mine. So if some things look familiar - they are 'posed to. For almost every quote, I put a few words as to why I like it:) So here you go Stacey. It is getting shipped out to Marlene in the morning. Hope you like it. Just remember - looks better in real life. kelli pS - for the record - I do not know how to control where these pictures land exactly...just the size. simple pleasures

My entry into Terri D's CJ "Simple Pleasures" for the Nashville Stars Hope ya like it Terri! It was actually not easy for me to do - I just kept cutting up that KI & Chatterbox!! I wanted it to be like a warm sunshine quilt... No - that is not REAL stitching on there. But I did it with REAL INK. Anyway - I will post it on 2 peas in the morning - but I thought it may look better here. I do NOT know why I couldn't get it it match up. Whew! Kathran - this little baby will be coming you way in the next 24 hours! 

today I scrapped

I scrapped today. Just for me. No tags. No swaps. Not even a CJ. Nope. It was great! 

 

Here are a few I will post on Monday morning at 2 peas. Why wait until then when they are already scanned in and ready to go? Well....You get more praise that way. I can't believe I said that. But it is true. Between 8:30 am and 9:30 am. I am pathetic...but I know it and admit it. I have no plans to change it. Anyway - the Darf Bader turned out a little Lisa McGarveyish (love her). The Summer 05 is based on an ad I saw. 

 

The whole house is clean - except the basement where the kids played as I scrapped. My craft room looks like my CKU suitcase threw up in there and then a small, contained in that room tornado swooped through and swirled around those previously gastro-containted items of that humongouso CKU bag. My hubby walked in last night and saw the room. "What happened here?" I said, "Honey, the important thing is that no one got hurt." And isn't that so true?
