if only owning school supplies
resource books
and self help items
made one smart
i would be the
brilliantest ever
for i have quite the weakness for these things

we set off
the whole family
to purchase supplies
from super target
from our little list of items

2 of my 3 will attend a 1 day a week program for
homeschooled kids
so
for the first time ever
we went school supply shopping

i imagined it to have been more fun that it turned out to be...
alex wanted all blue items
max wanted all items
and david, since he didn't have a list
just seemed to want to leave

i was glad john david went with us
those 3 little bags of supplies turned out to cost quite a bit more than i would have thought

i get most of our homeschool supplies from:

Barnes and Noble (if you take in a copy of you declaration of intent....the thing that you send the state and it says you are going to homeschool your children....they give you 20% off items)

a word of caution
though
with homeschooling
i think it is VERY easy to get caught up in all the things you COULD teach your kids
really
in the past years
i have so over bought on curriculum and stuff
as if owning that muzzy dvd would actually make my kids KNOW spanish or something

i haven't even looked thru this rainbow reasources catalogue this year....

so when did i get old?

so at CHA a group of people ended up hanging out in a resturant late one evening
we are talking about scrapbooking
life
etc
like 10 of us

and someone
for some reason
gets the idea to go around and say how old we are

guess what
i was one of the oldest there
not by like a year
but by years

yeah...that was worth finding the italics button

i got married in college
had david 3 years later
i was always the youngest in the group of our married friends
and then the youngest mom
i liked that
at least i didn't know i liked that
until it was gone
i'm not the youngest
i'm not the middle-est
dude
i was like one of the oldest

i'm sitting there looking at them
thinking

you all are embryos

but i didn't say it
i smiled
and nodded
like i had some wisdom or something about me

that is my new thing
look like i got some wisdom....
i'll probably have to keep my mouth shut more....

standing in this little booth made me want to eat jolly ranchers
it felt like a candy store
they had all these brightly colored things
sold individually
green felt polka dot paper

only 200 stores will have this
which makes me sad
not to have a local store

sigh

it is so amazingly fantastic!

i love organization
even though i fall off the organized wagon more than i can stay on

i guess it is more of an organized mechanical bull
on which i try to cling...

anyway
this book is fantastic!

so this is my hair color....now

so
my hair was really really blond when i was a kid
it slowly browned
and then the kids
(along with my brain cells
and my bladder's fortitude)
managed to drain out what real blond that was left
since then
i pay for my blond
until this past week
i went for brown
the thing is
it isn't really my brown
so....
i'm not sure i like it
but it is just hair
it will grow

all packed and ready
getting up at 4 am to head out for cha
woohoo!

by wed afternoon i may be just a

the real killing of harry potter

1. i can happily debate the merits of harry potter: both enjoying debate and literature

2. what i deem entertainment for my children and myself is sometimes the same but, quite often, different.

3. this rant isn't about either of these.

the true death of harry potter will be from
the harry potter purists themselves
because they are killing harry for me

we just came from the movie theatre
and a man stood up behind me at the end of the movie
and said
"well, i am very upset"

excuse me?
i just finished watching a movie where the audience actually cheered and clapped as it began
how often does that happen?
adapted from a book that is a bazillion pages long
funnelled into 2.5 hours
leaving out much of the detail but maintianing the spirit of the story
and
he
is
very
upset?

how was the movie?
it was as good as a movie that leaves you still wanting a resolution can be
i mean
we are still in the middle
and the middle of the story
especially the end of the middle of a story
(of a fairy tale)
leaves you thinking
how is this going to work out?

it is like the han solo in the carbonite scene at the end of the empire strikes back
as it slams on the floor
this movie
and the next
are that moment

it is the 45th minute of the tv show 24 where you think
jack bauer really has run out of ammunition

so i did like the movie
but based on the precariousness of the moment where we are in the story
i do wish critical purists who want to complain about what wasn't in the movie
would do so
not in close proximity to me

it seems disloyal
or
perhaps rude

chin up
and all
i say

we can't desert our harry now
must stay together
and hope
in saving the day
our hero will be saved as well

ya know
as long as those disgruntled "fans"
don't kill him in the mean time

personally
i'll keep going to the movies even if harry has to use a walker to make it across the screen
as he plays a 16 year old

the books are more rewarding
because they have so much rich detail to distract and entertain
however, they leave you at the same destination as the movie does
and, therefore, the books are more satisfying
