A lo of my little niece, Madison
I can't get my photos of CHA to load...
Still working on that.
So instead, a little story about me.
It turned out to be cheaper to hire a car to drive me home from the airport than to pay for parking while I was gone. And since I was getting in after 12 am and JD had a meeting very early in the morning...and so we didn't have to drag the kiddos out of bed in the middle of the night....
See, it seems very ostentatious to hire a car to drive me home....so I have to over justify it.
I have to say...I was very excited.
Someone holding a sign with my name on it at the airport.
Very in the movies.
So my connecting flight from Dallas, Tx was delayed 40 min.
I got in at 12:50 am.
Yawn.
Get to the American Airlines baggage claim.
No driver.
Get my luggage and look around outside.
No driver.
Go to the other side of the airport to other luggage claims.
No driver.
Hmmmm.
It looks like there is no driver.
At this point there are like 15 people in the ATL airport.
I'm a little nervous.
A guy is walking down the hall saying,
"anyone need a ride? Limo and car service."
A travel sevice had set up my driver...so I didn't know the company or anything to call.
So I say sure.
He takes my bags for me and we head out to the parking deck.
I don't have a lot in cash.
Out of checks.
He doesn't take credit cards.
He says he can take me to an ATM.
I realize we are totally alone.
No one around.
I look up and he is putting my bags into the back of a '92 Buick....not a nice one.
There is an liscence plate on the front of the car with the company name.
A paper liscence plate.
There is a tv inside and a cooler with water bottles.
However, the car isn't super clean.
I figure at this point...
He has my bags, no one is around...if he wants to shove me in the car...I'm a gonner.
This is the moment I feel like I will relive one day while talking to Oprah as she says....
"And you thought this was a good idea...to go to the second location?"
and the audience says....
"Ummmmmhmmmmm."
So I get into the car.
We get to the gate and he asks if I have money to pay to get out of the parking deck.
His last fair paid in a 100 and they won't break that.
Second red flag.
I give him a 5.
I think....I'm not going to an ATM with this guy.
So I call JD and wake him up.
He has cash and at least kinda knows where I am.
I keep my cell phone in my hand for the next hour.
And since I don't break the ice...I buust on through....I say
"Wow, you really saved me tonight since my driver didn't show up....
you know, as long as you don't cut me up into tiny pieces...."
He hands me a reciept for the trip with the company name on it.
Tells me about the company....
all the while there is a foriegn horror film playing
but no worries...
there are subtitles.
So I say, "Hey...what are we watching here?"
I mean...he is either going to kill me or not.
He says..."ok, I can change that."
He puts in Gangs of New york. The first scene is pretty violent.
I say, "Hey, I didn't know this was out on dvd yet"
Him, "I have connections."
(it comes out next weekend)
We go to a gas station that I have to say...is not in a nice area.
He says a different car will take me the rest of the way.
A very nice lady drove me the rest of the way home in a '92 suv-ish almost clean vehicle.
Actually, both drivers were nice.
JD met me at the door with the cash and a huge hug.
At 3 am I fell into bed and said....
"I'm so glad I'm not dead."
JD said..."me too".
He had 2 hours before he had to leave for his meeting.
And that is the story of how I got home from CHA.
