David - "Hey Mom, I was thinking that the next book I want to write will be the History of Humanity."
Me - "You might need more paper."
Phillip II and William the Silent
By David Crowe
This is a sample of David's history notebook.
I read a short chapter to the boys every other day.
They take notes in picture form.
The next day, we review the notes and they each write a paragraph about the topic.
David loves this.
Alex hates it.
I think Alex will transition into word notes very soon.
The idea is to start the year without correcting the
penmanship, spelling or grammar and to ease that in as they get used to the process.
Currently, David likes to write in all caps. He can write properly.
Some kids his age want a mowhawk.
I think it more about expressing his individuality than anything.
So if he ever wants a tatoo I can play the
"Nope, I let you write in all caps...remember?" card.
